New BMW iX3: range, charging and price
Up to 805 km of WLTP range, a 10 to 80% charge in 21 minutes and a 520-litre boot. The essentials on the new BMW iX3, based on BMW's figures, to help you choose between the 50 xDrive and the 40.

The new-generation BMW iX3 is the first model of the Neue Klasse, BMW's new family of electric cars. First shown at the IAA in Munich in September 2025, it is built in Debrecen, Hungary, and has been on European roads since spring 2026.
It keeps almost nothing from the previous iX3. This guide uses BMW's official figures to answer the questions people ask before choosing it, about range, charging, space on board and price.
What range does the BMW iX3 offer?
The iX3 50 xDrive, the first version launched, carries a battery with 108.7 kWh of usable capacity. BMW quotes a range of 679 to 805 km under the WLTP standard, with the difference coming mainly from the wheels and options.
- iX3 50 xDrive: 108.7 kWh usable, 679 to 805 km WLTP
- iX3 40: 82.6 kWh usable, up to 635 km WLTP
- Consumption of the 50 xDrive: 15.1 to 17.9 kWh per 100 km depending on equipment
The WLTP figure is a benchmark for ranking models. Real-world range drops noticeably at 130 km/h on the motorway or in winter with the heating on, as with any electric car. The iX3's range is still among the longest of electric SUVs this size, helped by a very streamlined body with a drag coefficient of 0.24.
How long does it take to charge?
The iX3 runs on 800 volts, the technology used by the fastest-charging electric cars. On a compatible rapid charger, the 50 xDrive accepts up to 400 kW.
- From 10 to 80% in 21 minutes on a rapid charger
- Up to 372 km added in 10 minutes on an 800-volt charger
- Up to 300 kW for the iX3 40, still 10 to 80% in 21 minutes
- 11 kW on alternating current, at home or on a public charger, and 22 kW as an option on cars built since March 2026

At home, on an 11 kW wallbox, allow around ten hours to fill an empty battery, which means one night. You rarely charge from zero, and a few hours are usually enough for the week's journeys.
The iX3 can also give its energy back. Cars built since March 2026 can power an electrical appliance, a house or the grid, depending on the installation and what your country allows.
How much space on board and how big is the boot?
At 4.78 m long, 1.90 m wide and 1.64 m high, the iX3 has the size of a five-seat family SUV, close to that of the petrol and diesel X3.
- A 520-litre boot, up to 1,750 litres with the rear seats folded
- A second 58-litre boot under the bonnet
- Up to 2,000 kg of towing capacity

Under the bonnet, a 58-litre tray keeps the charging cables separate, without taking room from the luggage.

What changes on board?
The cockpit is entirely new, and BMW calls it Panoramic iDrive. A display strip runs across the full width of the windscreen, just above the dashboard, and puts driving information in the driver's line of sight.
A large central screen handles the rest, from navigation to music, with the new BMW Operating System X. A 3D head-up display is available as an option.

iX3 50 xDrive or iX3 40, which one should you choose?
Two versions exist so far. They share the body, the boot and most of the equipment.
- iX3 50 xDrive: 469 hp, 645 Nm, all-wheel drive, 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 s, 210 km/h and the larger battery
- iX3 40: 320 hp, 500 Nm, rear-wheel drive, 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 s and 200 km/h, launched in summer 2026
The 50 xDrive makes sense if you drive a lot on the motorway or often head to the mountains in winter, thanks to its all-wheel drive and its extra 170 km of range. For everyday journeys and charging at home, the 40 is more than enough.
How much does the BMW iX3 cost?
In Germany, BMW lists the iX3 40 from €63,400 and the iX3 50 xDrive from €70,900, which is €2,000 more than at its launch. Prices vary from one country to another, depending on taxes, and rise with options such as the M Sport package.
With a subscription, you do not buy the car. You pay a monthly amount that includes insurance, maintenance, tyres and taxes, with an optional deposit to lower it. The iX3's page shows this amount for your country.
How does it compare with the electric Mercedes GLC and the electric Porsche Macan?
These are the two rivals most often compared with the iX3, and we offer them too. Here are the official figures for their all-wheel-drive versions.
- BMW iX3 50 xDrive: 469 hp, up to 805 km WLTP, up to 400 kW charging, 520-litre boot
- Electric Mercedes GLC 400 4MATIC: 489 hp, up to 715 km WLTP, up to 330 kW, 570-litre boot plus 128 litres at the front
- Electric Porsche Macan 4: up to 408 hp with Launch Control, up to 613 km WLTP, up to 270 kW
The iX3 goes the furthest and charges the fastest of the three. The electric GLC answers with a bigger boot and a much larger front boot, the Macan with sportier handling.
The BMW iX3 on subscription with Turismo
At Turismo, the iX3 50 xDrive with the M Sport package is available now, whether you live in Luxembourg, Belgium or France. It is a recent car, built in 2025, with no wait for production. It is reserved for you, prepared, then delivered to the address of your choice.
You choose a term of 24, 36, 48 or 60 months and an allowance of 1,000 or 2,000 km per month. The monthly payment covers comprehensive insurance, the maintenance set by BMW, summer and winter tyres, taxes and roadside assistance.
What remains outside the monthly payment is charging, delivery and any kilometres driven beyond the allowance.
The contract can also be taken out in a company's name. Our guide on company cars versus private cars explains what changes for an electric car in each country.
