BMW iX4 electric: the Neue Klasse coupé SUV targets more than 800 km of range
The BMW iX4 takes the iX3 Neue Klasse platform and gives it a coupé silhouette: more than 800 km claimed on the WLTP cycle and 400 kW fast charging. Expected specs, rivals and our verdict.

More than 800 km between charges, beneath a sweeping roofline: that is what the BMW iX4 promises. The BMW iX4 electric is the coupé version of the new iX3 Neue Klasse, and it could well set the range benchmark in its segment.
The X4 goes electric without changing the recipe
BMW is keeping its formula for the electric era: a family SUV, the X3, and a sportier coupé version, the X4. The iX3 Neue Klasse, unveiled at the Munich motor show in September 2025, kicks off the brand's new electric generation. It naturally gets a coupé version, the iX4, with a lower stance and a sloping roof.
An important caveat: BMW has not yet given full details of the iX4. The figures below come from those announced for the iX3 50 xDrive, which should share most of its technology with the iX4. Treat them as ballpark figures until the official specifications are released.
What's under the iX4's technical base?

The iX4 is expected to use the powertrain of the iX3 50 xDrive. Here are the figures announced for that model:
- Battery: around 108.7 kWh usable, 6th-generation BMW cylindrical cells built into the structure (cell-to-pack)
- Power: 345 kW (469 hp), two motors, all-wheel drive
- 0 to 100 km/h: around 4.9 seconds
- WLTP range: up to around 805 km
- 800 V architecture, DC charging at up to 400 kW
- Production: BMW plant in Debrecen, Hungary
The coupé's more aerodynamic profile could give it a WLTP range equal to or slightly higher than the iX3's, which is where the figure of more than 800 km comes from.
What real-world range can you expect from the BMW iX4?

BMW has not published any real-world figures. On the motorway, you should usually expect 20 to 30% less than the WLTP figure. Applied to around 800 km, that would mean 550 to 650 km. This is only a rough guide and will need to be confirmed by road tests.
On a trip from Luxembourg to the Côte d'Azur or from Brussels to Geneva, that means one charging stop in practice, sometimes two depending on the season and your speed.
Does 400 kW charging really make a difference?

This is the most tangible selling point. For the iX3, BMW claims 10 to 80% in around 21 minutes, and just over 370 km of range from a 10-minute charge. The iX4 should match these figures.
Bidirectional charging rounds things off: depending on the market, the car can power appliances (V2L) or a home (V2H).
What technology does the Neue Klasse bring?

- Panoramic iDrive: a display along the entire base of the windscreen, a 3D head-up display and a new central screen
- Heart of Joy: a supercomputer that controls traction, braking and energy recovery from one place
- Braking: the vast majority of deceleration is handled by energy recovery
- Bidirectional V2L and V2H charging, depending on the market
How does the iX4 compare with the electric GLC and the Macan?

BMW iX4 (based on the iX3 50):
- Battery: around 108.7 kWh
- Power: 469 hp
- 0-100 km/h: around 4.9 s
- WLTP: more than 800 km (claimed)
- Charging: 400 kW, 10-80% in around 21 min
- Price: over €70,000 (estimate)
Mercedes electric GLC (GLC 400 4MATIC):
- Battery: around 94 kWh
- Power: around 489 hp
- 0-100 km/h: around 4.3 s
- WLTP: up to around 713 km
- Charging: 330 kW, 10-80% in around 22 min
- Price: to be confirmed (Coupé version expected)
Porsche Macan 4 Electric:

- Power: 408 hp
- 0-100 km/h: 5.2 s
- WLTP: around 610 km
- Charging: 270 kW, 10-80% in around 21 min
- Price: from around €85,000
The Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron is also in the mix, with a battery of around 100 kWh, 270 kW charging and up to around 650 km on the WLTP cycle.
Is the BMW iX4 worth waiting for? Our verdict
On paper, the iX4 promises the longest range and the fastest charging in its class: around 90 km more than the electric GLC and nearly 200 km more than the Macan 4 Electric on the WLTP cycle. The GLC still wins on acceleration and comfort, while the Macan keeps its sporty image.
Our verdict: if you drive a lot between Luxembourg, Belgium, France and Switzerland, the iX4 looks set to be the most sensible electric coupé SUV in its segment, subject to official figures and final pricing. With a Turismo subscription, you can drive a premium electric SUV today, with no wait and no long-term commitment.
How much will the BMW iX4 cost?
The iX3 starts at around €68,900 in Germany. French pricing is still to be confirmed. The iX4 is expected to cost a few thousand euros more. On a long-term lease, a premium electric SUV priced at around €70,000 typically costs between €800 and €1,000 a month without a large down payment. This is our estimate, not BMW pricing.
